History of Needles
The Old Books
Old books describe about a dozen different types of needles. These books usually define certain characteristics as being criteria of choice for good conventional Chinese acupuncture needles:
– The material used for the body of the needle must be different from that of the cuff. The combination of two different metals exerts an effect on the acupuncture point.
-The copper cuff must be twisted in a clockwise direction, which corresponds to man’s relationship to his environment.
– The cuff must comprise a circular metal ring, preferably made of copper. In Chinese philosophy, the circle represents the sky.
